With the Yves Wall Sconce, designer Ian Thornton was playing around with geometric shapes inspired by the famed painter Piet Mondrian. But he wanted a more serious color palette than the one for which the artist was widely known, so he chose a mix of finishes that include contemporary gold leaf, contemporary silver leaf, copper leaf, and sugar white for the rectangular panels, all connected by linear crosshatches in satin black.
