Lighting Makes a Difference...

Good lighting can make a huge difference in how you feel about your home. It helps you perform tasks, promotes safety and comfort allowing you to enjoy your home to it’s full potential. Lighting adds beauty and drama to any room. It can make a small room look open and airy, and large rooms appear cozy and inviting. It can create a stimulating atmosphere for a night of entertaining, or a quiet feeling of relaxation after a long and tiring day. In so many ways, lighting can make a difference. And, it does so quite inexpensively compared to other home decorating or remodeling options.

Lighting Design & Layout...

A good lighting design is vitally important for functionality, security as well as aesthetics greatly adding to the enjoyment and the value of your home. Good lighting does not have to be expensive... just correctly planned. There are three basic types of lighting that work together to light your home namely, General, Task and Accent. With correct planning we can enjoy the benefits of what good lighting can do instead of often have to contend with the ineffectiveness of poor lighting usually as a result of a lack of preparation or inexpert advice. With our changing lifestyles the rooms in our homes are more spacious and multi-functional, therefore lighting design should consider these facts. Take the kitchen for example. Today’s kitchens are more than just places to prepare meals. In addition to its primary food function, this room ranks as the heart of the home and center of family activity. Such multi-tasking kitchens demand equally versatile lighting. Gone are the days when a single fixture centered in the kitchen ceiling was considered as adequate.

Professional Lighting Design Service..

Lighting should be planned to complement your lifestyle. So, first you need to develop a home lighting plan that suits your individual needs and those of your family. When planning your lighting, look at the activities that occur in each room, the atmosphere you want to create and the decorative elements you wish to emphasize. Keep in mind that light can be absorbed and even wasted in dark-colored rooms, or reflected and used as additional illumination in light-colored rooms. Also, take note of those areas serving more than a single purpose and those that will require more than one type of lighting. Light Bulbs Etc operates a professional design team of ALA certified lighting consultants providing in home lighting design and layout services. Whether you have a single room or a whole house to illuminate whether a remodel, a new house or just simply re- decorating, we are confident that you will find our expertise and ideas an invaluable benefit.

Important Lighting Tips to Know...

Listed below we have included some useful tips to consider when purchasing lighting.

(1) Energy Efficiency With the ever-increasing cost of electricity one needs to consider this fact seriously when making choices. The use of energy efficient light bulbs, dimmers and ceiling fans are all helpful tools in assisting with those high electric bills.

(2) Intelligent Choices The important thing to remember when choosing lighting is to ensure that your selection performs the required function. For example a shaded portable lamp placed next to a sofa or chair for the purpose of reading, may prove to be disappointing in that the light emitted from this type of lamp, will probably serve better as a general light source or a decorative furnishing, rather than a specific reading light.

(3) Plan Your Lighting Just as good light planning renders a home practical and livable, conversely incorrect planning or misplacement of lighting can seriously affect the beauty and functionality of your investment. Get professional assistance from an approved ALA lighting showroom whenever possible. A directory of ALA approved lighting showrooms can be accessed on the internet at... www.americanlightingassoc.com

(4) Selection...Advice... Service A good Lighting showroom will generally represent quality reputable manufacturers who are constantly introducing the newest innovations. They warranty their products and usually offer replacement parts and spares long after the item may be discontinued. Home improvement and big box stores frequently change suppliers and therefore continuity could be an issue under certain circumstances. In addition it rare to encounter someone with specific training in the fielld of lighting at such establishments. Understandably so since employees are constantly required to shuffle from one department to another with little importance on customer service and focused knowledge in one specific area. Lighting showroom employees have specialized knowledge solely in the field of lighting.
